Step 1: The first and foremost thing is to find out the “fill hole” in the cartridge.

Most of the cartridges are featured with a 'holding tank' that holds the powder of the toner. Some of them even have a “fill hole”, which are featured with a plastic plug. The refill packs for such color cartridges contain directions and instructions for finding out the “fill hole” as well as for refilling them.

However, some cartridges might not have any such “fill hole” as well. In that case, you have to make one on those printer color cartridges. The toner refill packs of these kinds of cartridges include a burn tool that is used for burning or melting a cartridges’ fill hole. The detailed instructions on the refill packs show how and where to make that hole for refilling the toner in the cartridge.

Step 2: Make sure that you are refilling your printer cartridge with the correct and compatible toner.

Once the “fill hole” is done, the toner chosen by you can be poured into that part of the cartridge. The toner pack contained in the refill packs are meant for specific cartridges. The toner kit even contains a funnel cap that is used for screwing the toner bottle’s top. That cap needs to be pressed gently against the refilling hole followed by a gentle tapping of the toner bottle’s side till it pours the entire toner into the cartridge. This helps you in refilling the toner cartridges without a mess. It is because shaking or squeezing the toner bottle might spray the powder of the toner.

Step 3: The final and the most important step is resealing of the fill hole of the cartridge of the toner.

Now, the procedure to do so depends on the type of the toner cartridge, which you have. In case you are using the one that comes up with the pre-made fill holes, then you would not have to do much. Just reinsert the plug, which was removed earlier to refill the cartridge.

However, if you are using the other kind of cartridge, where you had to make the refill hole, then you need to cover the space for refilling with a tape that are generally made of aluminum and are already contained in the toner refill kits.

Now, shake the cartridge gently so that the toner gets evenly distributed and then reinsert it into the printer.
