There are many people quoting the supremacy of one mobile operating system over another. In truth though, these are relatively balanced in feature count as well as overall operation. They allow you to easily access web pages, view HD content, use a plethora of applications and stay in touch with people easily. However, why is Android better? Why would this new mobile OS take the world by surprise and become the world’s most popular mobile operating system?
After spending a while looking for Samsung cell phone accessories for my Samsung Galaxy S II, I knew that it was time to get some customization going on the software side as well. As chance has it, this is largely the biggest reason for which Android is the best mobile OS for me at least. It features an unbelievable amount of customization options. You can get root access for an Android handset rather easily, you can customize every single aspect of the looks, but the best part is that you can customize everything running in the background.
A prime example of this occurring was with the Google Nexus S device. Those who had the 4G variant of the handset from Sprint had to wait a long time to get their update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The developer community decided that such a wait is unacceptable. With a new custom Android 4.0 ICS ROM available and a completely new kernel rewritten, the Nexus S 4G was blazing fast.
Benchmark results almost doubled after the software modifications, battery life increased and overall performance saw an immense boost. If you were the owner of a Nexus S 4G running this custom ROM and the new kernel, you could see unbelievable performance from a now 2-year old device.
This is one of the biggest reasons for which I always recommend Android. You don’t like the wallpaper? That one is very easy. But how about the entire layout? Do you wish a completely custom user interface, a different version of the operating system, even if the manufacturer is not going to update that particular model? All of this and more can be done with ease on an Android powered device.
However, my personal opinion is that most users still buy Android smartphones because they offer better price/performance ratios than what the competition has to offer. The iPhone 4S is a great device, but all the cool cell phone accessories will not cut it when it is facing a quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity and HD displays. Brand fidelity can only go so far when facing the strong competition posed by Android devices.
